Arundhati Ghose
Arundhati Ghose was India’s Permanent Representative/Ambassador to the United Nations. In 1996 she dramatically vetoed the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty at the Conference on Disarmement, a step that some say would not have been taken without her.
Arundhati Ghose grew up in Bombay and studied at the Cathedral and John Conan schools. She graduated from Lady Brabourne College in Calcutta and went on to Vishwabharati, Shantiniketan, before joining the Indian Foreign Service. She has been categorized as an extremely hard worker who expects her subordinates to work likewise. Known for her temper, she also has a ready smile and easy grace that the Hindu describes as having captivated the Western Press Corps.
