Arvind Virmani
Arvind Virmani is Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and former Economic Advisor to the Government of India. He was also the Economic Advisor for Development Policy in the Planning Commission from 1987 to 1991, Policy Planning Advisor to the Finance Minister from 1991 to 1993, and acting Chief Economic Advisor during the first quarter of 2000-2001.
Dr. Virmani was also a Senior Economist in the Research Department of The World Bank, and acting Chief of the Public Economics Division. He served as Director of Punjab National Bank and Allahabad Bank, and as a Trustee of the Unit Trust of India. Dr. Virmani holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts.
