Deepak Lal


Deepak Lal is the James S. Coleman Professor of International Development Studies at the University of California at Los Angeles,usa, professor emeritus of political economy at University College London, and a senior fellow at the Cato Institute. He was Research Administrator at the World Bank, a member of the Indian Foreign Service and has served as a consultant to the Indian Planning Commission, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, various UN agencies, South Korea, and Sri Lanka. His research interests include development economics, political economy, international economics, economic history, comparative economic systems, history of economic thought, and political philosophy. He has authored several publications including In Praise of Empires: Globalisation and Order Palgrave Macmillan, 2004 and Reviving the Invisible Hand: The Case for Classical Liberalism in the Twenty first Century, Princeton University Press, 2006.
